A very exciting zoom technique on online maps has been introduced by ALPSLAB known as Fish-Eye zoom, on which you can magnify selected parts of a map, as if you are using a manual Fish-Eye lens. To activate this feature, you have to click anywhere on the map and then you can place the Fish-Eye lens anywhere on the map. The continuity of features are not interupted while moving the lens over that.

This is a free service launched by ALPSLAB on an experimental website for next-generation map services. ALPSLAB created this feature in association with Emma. The company has developed this technology to view a location in detail, when a user wanted to see, with or without zooming the whole map. This service is targeted to devices with small screens like mobile phones, PDAs etc.

The Fish-Eye feature assumes that the scale ratios of the focussed area (focus) and the surrounding areas (context) are constant and displays the two areas minimizing the space curvature. To cover curved (distorted) lines between the focus and context, a “Grey” zone has been included. Width of this zone can be be adjusted by dragging the inner or outer circle with your mouse.
