AfriGIS, a location based services company, has made their dynamic, interactive maps freely available to companies and individuals enabling the integration of AfriGIS’ maps into their HTML websites.
Magnus Rademeyer, AfriGIS MD, says people simply have to visit maps.AfriGIS.co.za and register for free. They will then receive a key to AfriGIS’ map server, which is then integrated into the code of their website.
Once this has been done, the website displays an interactive map. Anyone visiting the website will be able to use the map to find the route from one point to another. Additional functionality includes being able to zoom in and out, specifying the coordinates and scale of where the map should open on the website and adding points to the map.
“Additional points of interests which could be added to the map could include the company’s position on the map, shopping malls in the area, petrol stations, emergency services, schools and more, allowing a company whose geographical position is important to maximise the benefit of their location to their customers,” he says.
Online map with “Fish-Eye” zoom feature
A very exciting zoom technique on online maps has been introduced by ALPSLAB known as Fish-Eye zoom, on which you can magnify selected parts of a map, as if you are using a manual Fish-Eye lens. To activate this feature, you have to click anywhere on the map and then you can place the Fish-Eye lens anywhere on the map. The continuity of features are not interupted while moving the lens over that.
This is a free service launched by ALPSLAB on an experimental website for next-generation map services. ALPSLAB created this feature in association with Emma. The company has developed this technology to view a location in detail, when a user wanted to see, with or without zooming the whole map. This service is targeted to devices with small screens like mobile phones, PDAs etc.

Make money from Google AdSense ads on your website
Google AdSense is an advertisement program by Google. Web publishers can enroll in this program to enable text, image and, more recently, video advertisements on their sites. Google AdSense matches ads to the site’s content, and generate income whenever your visitors click on them. The whole system is administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per click or per thousand impressions basis.
Google uses its search technology to serve ads based on website content, the user’s geographical location, and other factors. Those who need advertise with Google’s targeted ad system may sign up through Google AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertisements on a website because the ads are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the ads is often relevant to the website. Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating site. If it is included on a site which has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, it will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes known as public service announcements (PSAs).
