Online maps are available from many sources across the World Wide Web. First Google has entered into this map publishing service with highly interactive satellite images, maps and terrain images. The Google Maps API enable developers to create new applications and mashups, thereby pushing the Google Maps brand to mainstream audiences. Microsoft, Yahoo, MapQuest and others quickly followed the trend.
